TVEC and SLITA Celebrate a Landmark in Vocational Education

Diploma in Clothing Technology Recognized with NVQ Level 5 Equivalence (2010–2025)

The Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC), in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Institute of Textile & Apparel (SLITA), proudly announces a significant milestone in Sri Lanka’s vocational education landscape. The Diploma in Clothing Technology, conducted by SLITA from 2010 to 2025, has been officially declared equivalent to NVQ Level 05 the National Diploma in Textile & Apparel Manufacturing Technology.

This landmark recognition reflects SLITA’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence and industry relevance. By aligning its programmes with national qualification standards, SLITA ensures that its graduates are not only well-equipped with practical and theoretical knowledge but also hold nationally recognized qualifications that meet both student aspirations and industry demands.

The event was graced by esteemed representatives from the Tertiary & Vocational Education Commission (TVEC), including Dr. K.A. Lalithadheera (Director General), Dr. Ajith Polwatte (Director NVQ/Deputy Director General), and Dr. Dilrukshi Herath (Deputy Director NVQ). Representing the Sri Lanka Institute of Textile & Apparel (SLITA) were Mr. Tharanga Naleen Gamlath (Director General/President), Mr.  Sarath Wijebahu (Chief Technologist), and Mrs. Rukshini De Silva (Course Coordinator – Diploma in Clothing Technology).
