SLITA Degree Awarding Status

Three officials from the Ministry of Higher Education Non-State University Sector made an official visit to the Sri Lanka Institute of Textile and Apparel on June 5, 2025, for final site inspection and had a meeting about the institute's application for Degree Awarding Status.

This event was attended by Directress Mrs. Harini Jayasinghe, Assistant Directress Legal Ms. Sajini Wijesiriwardana, and subject officer Ms. Piyumi Maheshika, Ministry of Higher Education.

The occasion was attended by the institute's top management, including Director General Mr. Tharanga Naleen Gamlath, Director Technical and Training Mr. S. Ilangovan, and Director Operations Mr. Mahesh Kannangara.

The Institute's capacity to claim the Degree Awarding status was explained in the presentations by the Director General and Dr. Upashantha Rathnayaka, the Acting Dean of the Faculty of Textile and Apparel Studies.

Faculty Consultant Prof. Samudrika Wijepala,   Registrar Mr. K.G. Birto, and all Faculty and Department Heads participated in this important meeting. 

The Ministry representatives made a site inspection in the premises to verify the academic resources, such as classrooms, laboratories and other infrastructure facilities for dining, sporting, entertaining, and medical amenities.

Higher Education Ministry official will submit a report to Hon.Minister of Higher Education and subsequently degree awarding status will be published in the gazette.
